Who we are ...

We are your friends and neighbors.  The Hillandalers was founded by Winthrop residents four decades ago to promote the sport of snowmobiling and have fun.  Over the years we have evolved as the needs of our members changed but our core mission remains the same.  In years past we owned a club house on the Narrows Pond Road with a kitchen and restroom facilities but as the demands of daily life encroached on recreation time, the club house was no longer used and became a financial burden.  Today we do not own real estate.  Instead, we invest in equipment that allows us to build and maintain the trails more efficiently.

We are a small club that usually has fewer than 50 members and perhaps only 6 to 10 that regularly help with the trails.  So it is a huge challenge to build a trail system each winter when the snow flies.  But we are local snowmobilers committed to maintaining a local trail system as long as there are folks willing to help.

So. every fall we start again.

The first thing we do is check in with the heroes of the trail system, the nearly 140 landowners that let us build our trails across their land.  These folks do this as good friends and neighbors; they receive no compensation other than knowing how much we all enjoy winter recreation, and how we appreciate their support.

Then our members form work parties each Sunday to walk the trails, checking for blow downs, brushing & cutting back new growth since the last season, posting and repairing signs, building bridges over wet spots and rough terrain, re-routing trails when requested by landowners, and preparing our equipment for the winter.

With luck, hard work, and cooperation from Mother Nature, we can then enjoy our favorite winter pastime.

Whether you are Snowmobiling, Snowshoeing, X-Country Skiing or just out Hiking or Walking … Please come enjoy the trails with us.
